How ruamjaia Law came to be
ruamjaia Law opened on Convent Road in 2017 after its founding attorney, Khun Thipawan Lertchai, spent several years working within a larger commercial firm where family matters were handled as a sub-department of a busier practice. She felt that family law deserved a quieter room of its own — a place where there was no pressure to reach a conclusion before people were ready, and where both parties in a couple were treated as readers of the same documents rather than as opposing sides of a problem.
The name ruamjaia — which translates loosely as "joined hearts" or "shared intention" — was chosen deliberately. It does not describe a romantic ideal but a practical one: the idea that legal agreements work better when both parties have genuinely read them, considered them, and chosen to move forward.
Since opening, the practice has worked with couples at every stage — those preparing to marry, those separating, and those returning some years later to revisit arrangements they made under different circumstances. Each case receives the same unhurried attention.

What guides our work
Our mission is straightforward: to support families through legal processes in a way that leaves the people involved feeling heard rather than processed. That means taking time to explain what a document says in practice, not just what it says on the page. It means writing notes after every session so that nothing is assumed to have been agreed until it has been confirmed in writing.
We work exclusively in family law — not because we lack the capacity for other areas, but because we believe that a narrower focus allows for a more careful practice. The professionals at ruamjaia Law are familiar with the Thai Civil and Commercial Code provisions on matrimonial property, the Family Court procedures in Bangkok, and the practical considerations that apply to couples with assets in multiple countries.
We also understand that many of the people who come to us are dealing with a process they did not expect to need. Our role is to make that process as clear and as calm as possible.

Khun Thipawan Lertchai
Founding Attorney
Admitted to the Thai Bar with a focus on family and matrimonial property law. Prior experience in a Bangkok commercial firm before establishing ruamjaia Law in 2017. Conducts all initial consultations personally.
Khun Nattapong Suksawat
Legal Associate
Handles document preparation, household inventory analysis, and the drafting of settlement terms across mediation cases. Has supported over ninety property division proceedings since joining the practice in 2020.
Khun Prawit Charoenwong
Client Relations & Administration
Manages scheduling, written records distribution, and initial client correspondence. Ensures that both parties in a matter receive all documents in parallel and within an agreed timeframe.

How we maintain quality
Thai Bar Association membership
All attorneys at ruamjaia Law are admitted members of the Lawyers Council of Thailand and comply with the professional conduct standards set by that body.
Confidentiality protocol
All documents, session notes, and correspondence are stored in an encrypted, access-controlled system. Physical files are kept in a locked document room accessible only to relevant staff.
Drafting review process
Every document produced by the practice is reviewed by a second team member before it is shared with clients. No draft is final until both the drafting attorney and the reviewer have signed off.
Impartial mediation practice
In mediation matters, our attorneys act as neutral facilitators. We do not advocate for either party and are clear with both parties about that role from the first session.
Continuing legal education
Each attorney completes a minimum of eighteen hours of continuing professional development each year, with a focus on developments in Thai family law and in mediation practice standards.
Clear fee agreements
We provide a written fee agreement before any work begins, setting out the scope covered, the fee, and what would constitute a change in scope. Billing is not by the hour for the services we offer.
Family law in Bangkok — what the work involves
Family law in Thailand is governed primarily by Book Five of the Civil and Commercial Code, which covers family relationships, matrimonial property, and the dissolution of marriage. For couples where one or both parties are foreign nationals, additional considerations may arise under the law of their home country, and some agreements may need to be structured to operate in parallel across two legal systems.
At ruamjaia Law, our work in pre-marriage agreement drafting draws on the provisions of Sections 1465–1493, which define the separation between personal and marital property and the circumstances under which an agreement can modify the default arrangements. We explain these provisions in plain language so that both parties understand what they are agreeing to before they sign.
Property division during separation is a more open question in Thai law than it sometimes appears. The division of marital property (Sin Somros) is subject to negotiation between the parties, and the courts will generally respect a written agreement reached through mediation provided that it was entered freely and its terms are clear. Our mediation service is designed to produce exactly that kind of agreement.
Post-divorce financial reviews are particularly relevant where the original settlement involved property in Bangkok's condominium market or where one party has since experienced a significant change in income. We approach this work with a view to the long-term household position of both parties, not simply the terms of the original document.
